Could This be a Biblical Description of a Helicopter?

"And it was given them that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when it striketh a man.
And in those days men shall seek death, and shall in no wise find it; and they shall desire to die, and death fleeth from them.
And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared for war; and upon their heads as it were crowns like unto gold, and their faces were as men's faces. And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as teeth of lions.
And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots, of many horses rushing to war.
And they have tails like unto scorpions, and stings; and in their tails is their power to hurt men five months. - Revelation 9:5-10.

Indeed the helicopter is a possibility. It would appear to a first century man as some kind of armor plated locust with mens faces; their wings (rotors) do sound similar to the description of an army of horse-drawn chariots rushing into battle, as we are all familiar with today, but what could be the 'hair as the hair of women and their teeth were as teeth of lions"?

These 'locusts' have "less than lethal" capabilities that have yet to be incorportated into such a weapons system. They will have the ability to 'sting' people with such a painful torment that lasts five months and causes them to seek death rather than the suffering they will be exposed to. Of course, if taken literally, it could be some sort of creature as yet unknown to modern man. In either case, one must remember that John had no words in his vocabulary to define it in today's language: His account must be understood as an eye-witness description of technologies or events unknown in his day.

~or~

As literalists contend, could it be some sort of insect such as the giant asian hornet. The stinger on the hornet is 1/4 inch long and extremely painful. You can see it in a National Geographic video clip at http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/10/1012_051012_hornet_video.html It's wingspan is about three inches. Whatever John saw, natural or man made, it's going to be a dread plague on men.

Acknowledgement of God in the States of America

Much has been made of a statement by Thomas Jefferson in a letter to the Danbury Baptist Church regarding the separation of church and state. Thomas Jefferson grew up in Virginia where taxes were collected to support the Church of England. The Archbishop of Canterbury was the head of that church and it was the only officially recognized church in Virginia. Baptists and other denominations were not supported by government monies, but only by the freewill offerings of their parishioner's. Thomas Jefferson recognized how easily corruption could creep into a church that was an official organ of the government and how that would restrict the free worship of those whose beliefs differed.
Thomas Jefferson and most of those founders of America had no intention of restricting the free worship of God as they themselves were on public record as recognizing the existence of God and the necessity of His help in the affairs of government. As an example below are the pre-ambles of the state constitutions :

AS you can see from the above there was never an intention of the separation of God and State. That is a misnomer perpetuated by the ACLU and those who want to eradicate any form of Christian symbolism. In each state, a public recognition of God exists--moreover it is the God of the Bible Who is overwhelmingly referred to.

How Enduring is the Word of God?

Jesus said, "For truly I tell you, until the sky and earth pass away and perish, not one smallest letter nor one little hook [identifying certain Hebrew letters] will pass from the Law until all things [it foreshadows] are accomplished." - Matthew 5:18

The Psalmist said, "Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven [stands firm as the heavens]. -Psalm 119:89

Paul wrote to Timothy: "Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God's will in thought, purpose, and action), So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work."

Abortion: The Real Agenda

Abortion: A way to "start immediately to eliminate the barely educated, unhealthy and poor segment of our country." - Ron Weddington, council for Norma McCorvey, (also known as Jane Roe), in a letter (see page 12 of the report) to President Clinton's transition team prior to Clinton taking office in January 1993.

Did you really think abortion was all about a woman's right to choose?

What about the things that are told to women who are going to an abortion clinic?

Carole Everett, former abortion clinic(s) owner said, “I cannot tell you one thing that happens in an abortion clinic that is not a lie.”

Bible Description of a Nuclear Blast

Zechariah 14:12: "And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people who have fought against Jerusalem: their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth."

2 Peter 3:10-12:
But the Day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat. The earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy manner of living and godliness, looking for and hastening unto the coming of the Day of God, wherein the heavens, being on fire, shall be dissolved and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

Both the Old Testament and New Testament describe this as the culmination of a war that is yet to come. Could the Prophet Zechariah and the Apostle Peter have seen what we could only describe as a nuclear war?

What Darwinism Has Done for the Aboriginals

Organized hunts to find and kill Aboriginal people for the furtherance of science began a grizzly business of murder and mayhem as aboriginal burial sites were desecrated, bodies dismembered and skeletons exhumed. This followed on the heels of the publication of Origin of Species, The Preservation of Favoured Races by Charles Darwin. It was theorized by many at the time that Aboriginal people were a living example of a sub-human specie. The hint of racial superiority in the sub-title of Darwin’s book was not overlooked in Nazi Germany even if it is (completely omitted) on the infidel website.

Epilogue:
After an outcry from Aboriginal peoples the Natural History Museum in London this November 17th (2006) issued a statememt in response to a claim lodged by the Australian Government in November 2005 and to a request under that claim from the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre (TAC) to return the remains of 17 aboriginals.

Atheism Defined

'What is an atheist?'. An atheist would define the word by breaking it down into its two parts: A = without, theist = one who believes in a god. An atheist will tell you that they are simply people without belief (in god's).

I find this inaccurate because it doesn't take into consideration the various forms that atheism comes in. I prefer a more articulate definition. To simply state that atheism is purely a non-belief (in deity) is a very general definition. Historically you could believe in a god but if you didn't believe the way the local orthodoxy saw it, they would call you an atheist.

I find a three-fold definition of atheism is much more specific:
The first is 'Virtual Atheism' and those adherents in it describe the divine in such indefinable terms as 'the collective consciousness', 'the unknowable', 'personified reality' or as in the Star Wars series, 'the force.' Many naturalists have adopted this view and it has been increasing in popularity.
The second is "Practical Atheism" which is probably the closest to Agnosticism where it's adherents aren't confirmed atheists, but are simply indifferent to god. They may even say 'there may be a god somewhere but he/she isn't interested in me. Some of this category have no idea of what they believe they don't believe themselves.
The third is "Dogmatic Atheism" and the most indefensible and hard core of the positions. Those atheists in this group will tell you that 'god does not exist!' Many of them have determined that all religion is a hoax. An example of this type of atheism is Communism with which the phrase 'religion is the opiate of the people' originated. These groups will fight against all religion and in particular, Christianity. There has been a revival of this type of atheism in America in recent years spearheaded by such groups as the ACLU.

George Washington's 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to "recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789.

Sir Isaac Newton

On the Bible: "I have a fundamental belief in the Bible as the Word of God, written by men who were inspired. I study the Bible daily."

On atheism: "Atheism is so senseless. When I look at the solar system. I see the earth at the right distance from the sun to receive the proper amounts of heat and light. This did not happen by chance."
~~
It's interesting to me that in our different world views we can each observe the exact same evidence and come to completely different conclusions. Take for example the movement of our planet earth through space:The earth revolves once every twenty four hours. The speed at the equator of this rotation is about 1,040 mph or roughly half a kilometer per second and goes to practically zero at the poles. As the earth rotates, it's moon also rotates with such absolute perfect timing that man has only observed one side of it's surface from any point on earth. We see the same side of the moon as Moses and the ancient Pharoahs of Egypt. Our earth orbits the star in our solar system, our sun, once a year at an average speed of 18.5 miles per second (or 30km/ second).
Our solar system, which is about 26,000 light years from the center of our Galaxy, the Milky Way, makes one revolution of the Galaxy about every 200-250 million years at an average speed of 155 miles per second (250 km/sec.)
The Milky way Galaxy is just one galaxy in a group of galaxies called the Local Group. Within the Local Group, the Milky Way Galaxy is moving about 185 miles/sec (300 km/sec).
An atheist would look at that and say, it's all coincidence! As a believer I look at it and say with King David of old, "When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?"
When I see universal law, I see the fingerprint of a universal law giver.
So you see, in my world view, God exists and I see His love and plan working continually. An unbeliever sees in their world view dumb luck and blind chance without a cause to account for the existence of everything.
You may not believe in a god but we all believe something.
And on Job, it is in that book, one of the oldest books in the Bible, that says God "hangs the earth on nothing;" - Job 26:7. Atheists and Christians are like anyone else in that we all have our troubles. We all go through life and face crises. We are all going to die. The difference is that the Christian has a blessed hope of an eternal day. That's what Jesus guaranteed when He said,
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." - John 14:1-3.

Shotgun Approach?

One critic recently said that by using the vast amount of scripture to demonstrate that Jesus is the fulfillment of that prophecy is akin to using a shotgun. That the scripture covered such a vast amount of ground that anyone could fit in.

Quite the opposite is true! Here's an example:

Suppose for example that the police are looking for a white car that left the scene of a robbery/homicide. There are a lot of white cars! As they interview witnesses they learn that the suspect vehicle was a white, four door, Toyota. Those pieces of information narrow down the possibilities considerably. Finally, the police have analyzed the video tape from a parking lot camera and clearly see a white, 1998 four door Toyota leaving the parking lot and clearly see the license plate. Armed with that information they now have a single suspect vehicle.
Likewise, each prophecy provides more information about this “Immanuel” and narrows down the probabilities until there is no doubt as to the identity of this person. In all history there is only One who fulfilled all these prophecies.

Wrote a book entitled "Science Speaks,
Scientific Proof of the Accuracy of Prophecy and the Bible."
http://www.geocities.com/stonerdon/science_speaks.html
In it they took only eight of the more than 300 prophecies fulfilled by Christ and determined the odds of one person fulfilling just those eight. The results were astounding! They calculated the odds at 1 in 10 to the 17th power or 1 in 100, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000. Dr. Stoner calculated that many silver dollars would cover the entire state of Texas, two feet deep! I ask you, what do you think the odds are that if one silver dollar was painted red, how likely would it be for a blind folded person to march out and pick up the red one on the first try? Certainly if one did that, it would be by definition, a miracle!
