315 Miraculous Old Testament Prophecies Jesus Fulfilled

No other book in the history of the world has so many prophecies within it's pages. The Bible is totally unique in it's visions of the future. Listed in this article are 315 Old Testament prophecies that Jesus fullfilled. This is a fraction of the many overall prophecies contained in the Book. Some of the prophecies are "types" or "shadows" and therefore some skeptics have maintained that they are not valid; however included in my post I've placed the prophecies, types and forshadows side by side with their New Testament fulfillments, which for most Christian's validates those types and shadows.

These two men,
PETER W. STONER, M.S. [Chairman of the Departments of Mathematics and Astronomy at Pasadena City College (1953); Chairman of the science division, Westmont College, 1953-57; Professor Emeritus of Science, Westmont College; Professor Emeritus of Mathematics and Astronomy, Pasadena City College.]

ROBERT C. NEWMAN, S.T.M., Ph.D.Ph.D. in Astrophysics, Cornell University, 1967; S.T.M., Biblical School of Theology, 1972; [Associate Professor of Physics and Mathematics, Shelton College, 19689-71; Associate professor of New Testament, Biblical School of Theology, 1971-]

Wrote the book entitled "Science Speaks, Scientific Proof of the Accuracy of Prophecy and the Bible."

In it they took only eight of the more than 300 prophecies fulfilled by Christ and determined the odds of one person fulfilling just those eight. The results were astounding! They calculated the odds at 1 in 10 to the 17th power or 1 in 100, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000. Dr. Stoner calculated that if you spread out that many silver dollars, it would cover the entire state of Texas, two feet deep!

Now what do you think the odds are if say, one of those silver dollars was painted red, the likelyhood for a blind folded person to walk out on that pile of silver dollars and pick up the red one - on the first try? Certainly if one did that, it would be by definition, a miracle! The Bible is more than that.

Jesus Christ - King of the Jews by Birthright

Genesis 49:10 - 10 (ESV)- "The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples."

Of the twelve sons of Jacob which developed into the twelve tribes of Israel, Judah was the tribe that this prophecy says the Messianic King will come from.

Jesus' lineage was traced back to Judah through both His mother, Mary, and his step-father, Joseph. These genealogies prove that Jesus actually was, by birth, the rightful heir to the throne of Israel. He actually was born the "King of the Jews."

At His trial before the Roman Governer, Pontius Pilate, he remained silent as to the accusations against Him until Pilate addressed Jesus with this question:
"Are you the King of the Jews?"
At the conclusion of a short statement by him, Jesus makes this simple declaration in answer to that question:
"You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness of the truth. Every one who is of the truth hears my voice."
Jesus fulfilled at least 300 Hebrew prophecies from the Torah (Old Testament) - could that be what he meant when he made this statement, "for this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness of the truth"...? All of the rightful Kings of the Jews, with the exception of Saul, (who fought against David, the rightful king) were from the royal tribe of Judah. Jesus came from the tribe of Judah and was rejected-also a prophetic fulfillment (Isaiah 53). Jesus remains the rightful King and the Bible says He will yet reign in Jerusalem at the conclusion of the Battle of Har-Megiddo, or more commonly called Armageddon. In Nov. 2006 I referenced 315 prophecies that Jesus fulfilled (be sure to read the "astronomical odds" segment at the end of that article).

Ancient Bible Prophecies for Today

"Since a good portion of the Bible consists of Jewish prophecy, it stands to reason that fulfillment of those prophecies will be evident in the nation of Israel." - R. Hoeppner

That's exactly what we find! Here are only a few of those AMAZING prophecies that refer directly to -

ISRAEL

1. The (dissolved, non-existent) nation of Israel would be reborn in one day.

Isaiah 66:8 "Who has heard of such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall a land [a] be born in one day? Or shall a nation be brought forth in a moment? For as soon as Zion was in labor, she brought forth her children.

_______

[a] "Never in the history of the world had such a thing happened before--but God keeps His word. As definitely foretold here and in Ezekiel 37:21, 22, Israel became a recognized nation, actually "born in one day." After being away from their homeland for almost 2,000 years, the Jews were given a national homeland in Palestine by the Balfour Declaration in November, 1917. In 1922, the League of Nations gave Great Britain the mandate over Palestine. On May 14, 1948, Great Britain withdrew her mandate, and immediately Israel was declared a sovereign state, and her growth and importance among nations became astonishing." (c)Lockman Foundation
On May 14, 1948 Israel once again became a nation.
Status: Fulfilled
2. Jerusalem to be under Gentile control until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

Luke 21:24 - "They will fall by [a]the mouth and the edge of the sword and will be led away as captives to and among all nations; and Jerusalem will be trodden down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled (completed)."

Jerusalem was taken and possessed by Gentiles in A. D. 70 (under Titus of Rome) until the Jews regained control after the Six Day War of 1967.
Status: Fulfilled

3. During the diaspora (the dispersion of the Jews to the four corners of the world) Israel would become a wasteland.
Deuteronomy 29:23-28; - "The whole land is brimstone and salt and a burned waste, not sown or bearing anything, where no grass can take root, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah with Admah and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in His anger and wrath-- Even all the nations shall say, Why has the Lord done thus to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean? Then men shall say, Because they forsook the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them forth out of the land of Egypt. For they went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods they knew not and that He had not given to them.
So the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, bringing upon it all the curses that are written in this book. And the Lord rooted them out of their land in anger and in wrath and in great indignation and cast them into another land, as it is this day."

During the past 1900 years historic Israel was nearly an uninhabited wasteland used as a crossroads by nomadic tribes.
Status: Fulfilled

4. A day would come when Jews will return to Israel from the North, South, East and West.
Isaiah 43:5-6; "Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east [where they are dispersed] and gather you from the west.(A) I will say to the north, Give up! and to the south, Keep not back. Bring My sons from afar and My daughters from the ends of the earth--
Jeremiah 31:7-10; For thus says the Lord: Sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and shout for the head of the nations [on account of the chosen people, Israel]. Proclaim, praise, and say, The Lord has saved His people, the remnant of Israel! Behold, I will bring them from the north country and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, and among them will be the blind and the lame, the woman with child and she who labors in childbirth together; a great company, they will return here to Jerusalem. They will come with weeping [in penitence and for joy], pouring out prayers [for the future]. I will lead them back; I will cause them to walk by streams of water and bring them in a straight way in which they will not stumble, for I am a Father to Israel, and Ephraim [Israel] is My firstborn.
Hear the word of the Lord, O you nations, and declare it in the isles and coastlands far away, and say, He Who scattered Israel will gather him and will keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock."
Zephaniah 3:10. "From beyond the rivers of Cush or Ethiopia those who pray to Me, the daughter of My dispersed people, will bring and present My offering."
Status: Observing the fulfillment currently taking place.

The Hebrew (pure) language to be restored.
Zephaniah 3:9 "For then [changing their impure language] I will give to the people a clear and pure speech from pure lips, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve Him with one unanimous consent and one united shoulder [bearing the yoke of the Lord]."
In 1948 the once lost language of Hebrew became the official language of Israel.
Status: Fulfilled

5. In the last days Israel would once again plant forests of trees. Trees are growing all over Israel today after the land was laid waste for nearly two millennia.
Status: Fulfilled

6. In the last days, Israel would blossom and be an exporter of produce to the world.
Isaiah 35:1-2; 6 "THE WILDERNESS and the dry land shall be glad; the desert shall rejoice and blossom like the rose and the autumn crocus.
It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the excellency of [Mount] Carmel and [the plain] of Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord, the majesty and splendor and excellency of our God."

Ezekiel 36:34-36. "And the desolate land shall be tilled, that which had lain desolate in the sight of all who passed by. And they shall say, 'This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden, and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are fortified and inhabited.'
Then the nations that are left round about you shall know that I the Lord have rebuilt the ruined places and replanted that which was desolate. I the Lord have spoken it, and I will do it."
Today Israel exports in excess of a billion dollars worth of produce a year plus over 200 million dollars worth of flowers.
Status: Fulfilled

7. Israel would once again enjoy economic prosperity.

Ezekiel 38:12-13. "To take spoil and prey, to turn your hand upon the desolate places now inhabited and assail the people gathered out of the nations, who have obtained livestock and goods, who dwell at the center of the earth [Palestine]. Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish, with all their lionlike cubs [or satellite areas], shall say to you, Have you come to take spoil? Have you gathered your hosts to take the prey? To carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to take a great spoil?

This young nation exports ten times ($30 billion) the goods of their neighbor, Jordan ($3 billion).
Status: Fulfilled (photo of date palms near Lake Galilee)

8. The Jews will once again plant vineyards on Israel’s mountains. Once in thier land they (the Jewish exiles) shall never again be driven out of it.
Joel 3:18; "And in that day, the mountains shall drip with fresh juice [of the grape] and the hills shall flow with milk; and all the brooks and riverbeds of Judah shall flow with water, and a fountain shall come forth from the house of the Lord and shall water the Valley of Shittim."

Amos 9:13-15. "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him who sows the seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine and all the hills shall melt [that is, everything heretofore barren and unfruitful shall overflow with spiritual blessing]. And I will bring back the exiles of My people Israel, and they shall build the waste cities and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards and drink the wine from them; they shall also make gardens and eat the fruit of them. And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be torn up out of their land which I gave them, says the Lord your God."
Dozens of vineyards are now growing throughout the Golan Heights and other mountains of Israel.
Status: Fulfilled (pictured are grapes in Israel)

9. Jerusalem would be rebuilt on its own ruins.
Jeremiah 30:18 "Thus says the Lord: Behold, I will release from captivity the tents of Jacob and have mercy on his dwelling places; the city will be rebuilt on its own [old] moundlike site, and the palace will be dwelt in after its former fashion."
Zechariah 12:6. "In that day will I make the chiefs of Judah like a big, blazing pot among [sticks of] wood and like a flaming torch among sheaves [of grain], and they shall devour all the peoples round about, on the right hand and on the left; and they of Jerusalem shall yet again dwell and sit securely in their own place, in Jerusalem."
Exactly as predicted, Jerusalem is being rebuilt on the old ruins. The fact is that new construction often has to be temporarily halted because the construction site is also an archaeological site.
Status: Continually being fulfilled.

Global Warming

“The fourth angel emptied his bowl on the sun, and it began to scorch people like fire. Everyone was scorched by its great heat, and all of them cursed the name of God who had power over these terrible troubles. But no one turned to God and praised him.” – Revelation 16:8, 9 – CEV

I can picture in my mind doomsday scenes from movies like “The Day After Tomorrow” which follows a global warming scenario that results in mega twisters hitting Los Angeles, super Tsunami’s flooding New York and Europe being freeze dried by an instant Ice Age. It once was great sport poking fun at robed prophets standing on street corners waving signs ‘The End Is Near.” Now Hollywood is doing the same thing, but with a much larger budget and backed up by politically driven science. Anyone voicing an other view than the political correct one is immediately and effectively marginalized.

I don’t know about you but I’m just as afraid of politically driven science as I am of religiously driven politics. Politics is all about favoring one view over another and achieving power. Religiously controlled government or politically driven science will eventually deprive people of their rights, their beliefs, their thoughts and freedoms. Global warming is a fact of life. The jury is still out on deciding on its cause or if it is as temporary as the Ice Age hype of the '70s.
It’s always politically expedient to affix blame for a problem to one's opponent especially in a run up to an election and all too often politicians think the answer to the problem is money. One recent example: New Orleans--got a lot of money after Katrina, but I think we all agree it was grossly mis-managed.
What we do know:
1. The decade of the 1990’s was the warmest since record keeping began.
2. Northern Hemisphere Spring thaw begins 9 days earlier than 150 years ago.
3. The Northern Hemisphere Fall freeze begins 10 days later than 150 years ago.
4. Average temperatures in Alaska have increased by 4 degrees Celsius in 50 years.
5. Warming and cooling cycles on Earth happen about every 100,000 years.
6. Since 1978 Arctic sea ice area has shrunk by some 9 percent per decade.
7. 15 degree warming spike occurred in Greenland in one decade during the last Ice Age.
8. The Solar cycle lasts about 11.3 years.
9.
Geophysicists are aware of increased solar activity reaching a 1000 year high.

There is much conjecture as to the cause of global warming; the most popular (and politically correct) being that human activity is responsible for it (pushing CO2 into the atmosphere through automobiles and industry).
Scientists monitoring the Martian polar ice cap (solid CO2) have noticed that the its been shrinking for the past decade. It's an indication that the Sun may be the cause for our global warming rather than man.

“…new studies suggest that the increase in solar radiation absorbed at the earth’s surface had almost 10 times as much warming power during that time as the concurrent increases in carbon dioxide, the main global warming gas. Therefore, the warming observed over the past 20 years must have little to do with changes in greenhouse gases.”- World Climate Report
Recent increases in just two areas, (1) volcanism and (2) thousands of out of control coal mine fires, (some have been raging for many decades) add may far exceed the total output of industry and transportation. Undersea volcanism may even be a cause of the El Nino effect. It's debatable. Then there’s a third source for much of the CO2 released into the atmosphere; it comes from the sea and occurs near the equatorial oceans.
So why mention this in a Christian blog? Well, there's been a lot of propaganda out there that Christians aren't concerned with the environment. That misinformation needs to be countered. From the beginning God's instructions to man were to care for the earth. Does it matter how we treat the environment if global warming turns out to be caused by factors beyond our control. Yes it does! I believe the vast majority of Christians are practicing environmentalists.
But aren't natures upheavels a sign that we're in the last days of the world system?
I'm working on a write up for a future blog about that but for now let's just take a peek at a few of the signs of the times according to Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ explained some signs leading to the end-time world events. Words in red are Jesus’ and parentheses are mine.

“When you see Jerusalem surrounded by soldiers, (fulfilled – AD 70) you will know that it will soon be destroyed. If you are living in Judea at that time, run to the mountains. (Many Christians survived the destruction of Jerusalem because of these very words) If you are in the city, leave it. And if you are out in the country, don't go back into the city. This time of punishment is what is written about in the Scriptures. It will be an awful time for women who are expecting babies or nursing young children! Everywhere in the land people will suffer horribly and be punished. Some of them will be killed by swords. Others will be carried off to foreign countries. Jerusalem will be overrun by foreign nations until their time comes to an end (In 1967 Jerusalem came under the control of Israel).
Strange things will happen to the sun, moon, and stars. The nations on earth will be afraid of the roaring sea (tsunamis) and tides (rising sea levels) and they won't know what to do. People will be so frightened that they will faint because of what is happening to the world. Every power in the sky will be shaken. (could be a reference to nuclear war) Then the Son of Man will be seen, coming in a cloud with great power and glory.” - Luke 21:20-27 CEV

Will Israel Ever Be Exiled Again?

"I will bring back my exiled people Israel; they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them. They will plant vineyards and drink their wine; they will make gardens and eat their fruit.
I will plant Israel in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land I have given them," says the LORD your God.
- Amos 9:14-15

With that one promise from the Bible I have complete confidence that Israel is there to stay no matter what! The next question then becomes; 'when are the Israeli's going to build their temple?'

The way I see it, the Muslims won't occupy the temple mount much longer. The Mosque that occupies that space will be gone shortly. My guess is that it will be leveled by a Ketusha attack from Hamas or Hezbollah. I don't really see Israel taking any action but defensive unless Iran is about to get the 'bomb.'

Then there will be an invasion against Israel by most of the Islamic states and Russia. Russia's tactics are to parachute in, secure the airport and land supplies. This will be their biggest mistake.

A new weapon will be unleashed on them. It will have an 83.3% kill rate and will effect man and beast whose bodies will be rotting in the sun following the battle.
Afterwards when a man goes into the field and sees the remains of man or beast he will flag the area after seven months professional burial teams will come along and bury the remains.

When will this happen?

Well, that is the question isn't it? Russia will apparently be preparing for a war and be in position to attack Israel but for some reason decide against it. But before they have totally stood down, they will change their mind and decide to attack. They will go against Israel-the land of UN-Walled villages. That is a key phrase IMHO since Israel has established huge concrete barriers to control Palestinian movement. Therefore this attack probably won't occur until those walls are dismantled.

First Prophecy and Fulfillment Concerning Christ

Virgin Birth; Destruction of Satan; Suffering of Christ
1. Gen. 3:15.....Seed of a woman (virgin birth).....Luke 1:35, Mt 1:18-20.
2. Gen. 3:15.....He will bruise Satan's head.....Heb. 2:14, Jn. 3:16

Prophecy: Genesis 3:15 "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel."
Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."

Fulfillment: Luke 1:35
"And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."

Matthew 1:18-20
"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost"

Suffering of Christ, Doom of Satan.

Hebrews 2:14
"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil."

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Shotgun Approach?

One critic recently said that by using the vast amount of scripture to demonstrate that Jesus is the fulfillment of that prophecy is akin to using a shotgun. That the scripture covered such a vast amount of ground that anyone could fit in.

Quite the opposite is true! Here's an example:

Suppose for example that the police are looking for a white car that left the scene of a robbery/homicide. There are a lot of white cars! As they interview witnesses they learn that the suspect vehicle was a white, four door, Toyota. Those pieces of information narrow down the possibilities considerably. Finally, the police have analyzed the video tape from a parking lot camera and clearly see a white, 1998 four door Toyota leaving the parking lot and clearly see the license plate. Armed with that information they now have a single suspect vehicle.
Likewise, each prophecy provides more information about this “Immanuel” and narrows down the probabilities until there is no doubt as to the identity of this person. In all history there is only One who fulfilled all these prophecies.

In it they took only eight of the more than 300 prophecies fulfilled by Christ and determined the odds of one person fulfilling just those eight. The results were astounding! They calculated the odds at 1 in 10 to the 17th power or 1 in 100, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000. Dr. Stoner calculated that many silver dollars would cover the entire state of Texas, two feet deep! I ask you, what do you think the odds are that if one silver dollar was painted red, how likely would it be for a blind folded person to march out and pick up the red one on the first try? Certainly if one did that, it would be by definition, a miracle!
